    221311 - Boys Travel Basketball

    Those interested in trying out for Boys Travel Basketball must be registered prior to Friday, October 1. Although the Travel Basketball fee of $109.00 is not required upon this registration, a minimum of $1.00 is due (system requirement).     301010 - NFL Flag Football

    Farmington Recreation and the Farmington Valley MudHogs have teamed up to offer MudHogs Tackle Football, NFL Flag Football and MudHogs Cheerleading to the youth of Avon, Burlington, Canton, Farmington and Harwinton. For more information and to start the registration process, please register your child in the appropriate group below and visit MudHogs Football at www.mudhogsfootball.com.

    GENERAL INFORMATION:

    Please visit www.mudhogsfootball.com to complete the required informational registration needed for team placement and communication purposes. There are no additional fees associated with this registration which is required to participate in the program.

    VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED: Please consider volunteering to coach or assist teams in this year's league. The more coaches available to help, the better experience the players will have. If you are interested in coaching or assisting, please contact NFL Flag Coordinator, Rob Murray at robioland@gmail.com


    Player evaluations will be held on Sunday, August 29 (time and location TBD). The first practices will be held on Friday, August 20. Practices are typically held Fridays throughout the season. Games will begin on Sunday, September 12 and will run through Sunday, October 24 with playoffs scheduled October 31 and November 7. Games are held between 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

    Players must have a sports mouth guard, athletic shorts, cleats (metal not permitted) or sneakers. An NFL Flag Football team jersey and NFL Flags will be provided to all players.

    A late fee of $25.00 will be assessed beginning Saturday, July 31, 2021. Absolutely no registrations will be accepted after 8/12/2021.

    301020 - MudHogs Tackle Football

    301020 - MudHogs Tackle Football

    Farmington Recreation and the Farmington Valley MudHogs have teamed up to offer MudHogs Tackle Football and the Nutmeg Youth Football League to the youth of Avon, Burlington, Canton, Farmington, and Harwinton. For more information and to start the registration process, please register your child in the appropriate group below and visit MudHogs Football at www.mudhogsfootball.com. Registration required within both sites.

    GENERAL INFORMATION:
    Team conditioning practices will start on July 12, 2021 running Monday thru Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. Team full practices will start on July 26, 2021, running Monday thru Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. All practices will be held at Farmington High School. The week of August 2, 2021 through - the end of the season practices will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday same time (coach may choose to practice different days), until we lose daylight, at which point, times will be changed and communicated.     Games will be held Sundays beginning September 5, 2021. We will play seven games to play all teams in the Nutmeg Youth Football League. Playoffs start on October 31, 2021 and will continue until a champion is declared per division on November 14, 2021.

    Welcome to the Farmington Valley MudHogs Cheer program! Farmington Recreation and the Farmington Valley MudHogs have teamed up to offer MudHogs Tackle Football, Cheer and NFL Flag Football to the youth of Avon, Burlington, Canton, Farmington and Harwinton. Please register your child in the appropriate group below and immediately visit MudHogs Football at www.mudhogsfootball.com to complete the required informational registration for team placement and communication purposes.

    GENERAL INFORMATION:

    A Squad: Grades 7 - 8
    B Squad: Grades 5 - 6
    C Squad: Grades 2 - 4

    The first practices will run August 16 - 19 and August 23 - 26 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

    TENTATIVE: Practices will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning August 31 through the end of the season. A&B Squads will practice 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and C Squad will practice from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. The practice location is TBD pending approval of facilities by Farmington Public Schools.

    For practices, participants should wear appropriate athletic attire, cheer sneakers, have hair up in a neat ponytail if possible and bring plenty of water.

    All squads will cheer at Farmington Valley MudHogs home games (C Squad attends until half time, A&B Squads attend full game).

    All participants will be provided with a cheer skirt, shell and midriff which must be returned at the end of the season. Participants must be sized properly for cheer sneakers at Dancingly Yours. The sneakers, briefs and hair bows will also be provided by the cheer program and will be distributed by program volunteers. Families are required to provide no-show white socks.

    October 2021: CTYFC Competition (Date & Time TBD)
    November 2021: States Competition (Date & Time TBD)

    Absolutely no registrations accepted after 8/27/2021.

    In this course, participants will learn the basics of the Olympic Sport of Fencing taught by Fencing Master, Marc Ganych.

    Marc, who has a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Exercise, studied Olympic Foil Fencing from 1979 to 1987. Marc is the 1984 Gold Medalist of the "First Junior Games" as well as the 1985 Bronze Medalist of the National Tournament "Blades of Ala-Tau". Marc is also the 1985 "Outstanding Fencing Technique" award winner as well as a published author of e-book "Powerful Fencing Footwork".

    Welcome to the Farmington Valley Field Hockey League for girls entering Grades 5-6!

    The Farmington Valley Field Hockey League is comprised of teams from Avon, Farmington, Granby, Simsbury and Wethersfield. The program includes one practice and one game per week. This is a recreational league that requires travel to away games. Each player is responsible for their own field hockey stick, cleats, mouth guard, shin guards, and eye protection. A reversible game jersey will be provided.

    Games will be played in two 30 minute halves on half of the field, 8 v 8 with no goalies.

    Game Dates: Sundays, September 12 - October 24 (No Games: 10/10, Make-Up Date: 10/31)

    Finishing a 5K is an impressive achievement at any age. Imagine the sense of accomplishment and pride your son will feel when he crosses the finish line of a real 5K at the end of the season! MPower Boys Running will prepare him to do just that. Modeled after popular Couch-to-5K plans, MPower’s training program is designed for all levels of runners: from very beginners to experienced racers. We will concentrate on proper form and pacing while we build endurance over the weeks through a combination of running drills, games and core strength exercises. Race registration is not included in the program fee and is not required to participate in this great program!

    Imagine the thrill your daughter will feel as she crosses the finish line in her first race. This non-competitive training program is designed for all levels of runners. Help your daughter gain confidence, build self-esteem, and lead her to a path of health and fitness. Focus will be on using games and drills that make running fun, while also improving athletic performance for those who play other sports. As part of the program, the girls will be exposed to goal setting, journaling of training, nutrition, and mental preparation. This dynamite training program will prepare your daughter for Jamie’s Run in Old Wethersfield on Sunday, November 7!     Farmington Recreation is excited to offer the Soccer Shots Mini program for 2 and 3 year olds here in Farmington. This energetic and fun program is professionally designed under the guidance of childhood education specialists, MLS and USL professional players and licensed coaches to be developmentally appropriate and tailored specifically to young age groups. The sessions are 35 minutes in length and will introduce your child to the basics of soccer in a social setting. Using creative and imaginative games, songs, and positive reinforcement weekly sessions will focus on basic soccer skills like dribbling and shooting. We also highlight a positive character trait each session such as respect, confidence, and appreciation. Physical skills, motor development and fun are guaranteed in this program. Each child will receive a Soccer Shots shirt. Spaces are limited and will fill quickly. No gear is needed! Just bring a water bottle and your favorite play clothes!

    Are you interested in learning how to train to increase your running fitness? Are you interested in getting back into running for exercise but need guidance and motivation? Come learn dynamic warm-ups and strength exercises that prevent injuries and learn different ways to get fitter and stronger as a runner! This program is designed for all levels and abilities and is coached by an Ironman World Championship qualifier who has coached running for 17 years!

    ENTRY/EXIT PROTOCOL

    1) Our Running for All Levels Program will be held on Mondays and will meet at the New Britain Avenue/Oakridge Parking Lot. In case of inclement weather, please contact Farmington Recreation at 860.675.2540.

    2) Make-Up Date 10/25

    PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOL (subject to change)
    Please note that modifications/changes may be made per the State of CT due to the current public health situation.

    1) Farmington Recreation may divide registrants into age-based cohorts.

    2) It is expected that all participants will bring their own equipment (if applicable). It is expected that all participants will bring their own snacks (if applicable) and plenty of water/beverage. Sharing of snacks and water/beverages is strictly prohibited due to the current public health situation. It is expected that participants bring their own hand sanitizer. Program staff will schedule healthy hand hygiene and hydration breaks as needed.

    3) Although it is strongly suggested, staff (vaccinated or unvaccinated for COVID-19) are not required to wear masks outdoors. The requirement for staff (vaccinated or unvaccinated) to wear masks indoors in childcare and youth camps/programs settings is required.

    Would you like to get more comfortable on a bike or build your cycling endurance? Do you want to increase your biking fitness so you can get faster and bike farther? You will be coached through proper warm-ups for cycling, bike safety checks, what to take on a bike ride, how to change a flat tire, how to draft safely and learn different ways to train.
