211041 - Martial Arts, Beginner

Flexibility, coordination, strength and self-confidence will be developed through participation in this ancient practice. Students will be introduced to the traditional techniques of karate and jujitsu. The karate gi is recommended.
ENTRY/EXIT PROTOCOL
1) This program is scheduled at the Farmington Youth Center, 23 School Street, Unionville.
2) Participants should check-in, enter and exit through the main entrance of the building. Parents and participants are asked to wear a facemask while approaching the building and upon check-in. Parents will not be able to wait indoors during class. Parents are asked to wait outside near or in their vehicles during class.
PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOL (Subject to Change)
This program is considered a Moderate Risk Program that involves close, sustained contact, but with protective equipment in place that may reduce the likelihood of respiratory particle transmission between participants OR intermittent close contact OR group sports OR sports that use equipment that can’t be cleaned between participants. Please take note of the public health protocols list below prior to registration.
1) Event organizers, staff, coaches and participants shall conduct daily symptom assessments (self-evaluation) and stay home if they are experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19.
2) Event organizers, staff, coaches and participants are required to wear a cloth face covering/mask at all times while inside the gymnasium/facility.
3) Parents/guardians will not be able to wait indoors during this program. Spectators are not permitted.
4) It is expected that all participants bring their own hand sanitizer and sanitize at the start, during breaks and at the conclusion of the program.
5) Water fountains are not available for use. Participants shall bring plenty of water.

221420 - Girls In Stride

Imagine the thrill your daughter will feel as she crosses the finish line in her first race! This non-competitive training program is designed for all levels of runners. Help your daughter gain confidence, build self-esteem, and lead her to a path of health and fitness. Focus will be on using games and drills that make running fun, while also improving athletic performance for those who play other sports. As part of the program, the girls will be exposed to goal setting, journaling of training, nutrition, and mental preparation. The program fee includes a t-shirt and training journal. In the case of inclement weather, the program may be held inside in the school gym, pending facility availability.
This program typically prepares participants for a local "goal race," which will be determined pending State of Connecticut COVID-19 restrictions. Race registration is not included in the program fee.
ENTRY/EXIT PROTOCOL
1) This program is scheduled at the Irving Robbins Middle School athletic fields.
2) Participants are asked to wear a facemask while checking in and may be required to wear masks during the program, pending guidelines set forth by the State of Connecticut and/or the Farmington Valley Health District. Per the REOPEN CT Sector Rules, all spectators are required wear facemasks or cloth face coverings that completely cover the nose and mouth while attending youth sporting events.

Whether you are a beginner or a more accomplished player, you'll be sure to enjoy our Winter Tennis Lessons with United States Professional Tennis Association Pro, Paul Ratcliffe.

231080 - Olympic Fencing

In this course, participants will learn the basics of the Olympic Sport of Fencing taught by Fencing Master, Marc Ganych.
Marc, who has a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Exercise, studied Olympic Foil Fencing from 1979 to 1987. Marc is the 1984 Gold Medalist of the "First Junior Games" as well as the 1985 Bronze Medalist of the National Tournament "Blades of Ala-Tau". Marc is also the 1985 "Outstanding Fencing Technique" award winner as well as a published author of e-book "Powerful Fencing Footwork".

Calling all soccer players! Don't miss this exciting opportunity to improve your skills in this exciting new Futsal program with Coach Chris Lepak from CAB Sports!
Futsal is one of the fastest growing sports worldwide! Similar to soccer, futsal is played with a smaller, low bounce ball and encourages great touch on the ball, good footwork and dribbling. Futsal gives soccer players confidence, comfort and some flair on the soccer field. Players will work on individual foot skills, develop their technical and tactical skills and learn how to apply them in a game setting. Skills and drills are developmentally appropriate, high yielding and created to bring out the best in each player. Soccer flats/court shoes or sneakers are required. No cleats.

341330 - 2.4.1 Winter Multi-Sport

2.4.1 Sports, the internationally recognized, award winning program is taking their well-established summer camp model from right here in Farmington and offering a 6-week sport sampling program for grades K - 6 this winter! Sessions are grouped/cohorted by grade (K-2, 3-4, 5-6) and will be led by amazing 2.4.1 Sports Team Members.
Each 75-minute fun-filled session will offer two new sports each week (sample 12 sports over the 6-week program). Each week, the two sports will show a similarity between the two either through fundamental sport skills or team dynamics. All equipment will be provided. Participants should wear sneakers and attire that will allow them to run and play freely.
Grades K - 2: 1:30 - 2:45 PM
Grades 3 - 4: 3:00 - 4:15 PM

2) Participants shall enter West Woods Upper Elementary School at the main entrance and may check in up to fifteen minutes prior to the scheduled start of their session.
3) Participants shall exit West Woods Upper Elementary School at the north exit of the gymnasium located near the outdoor basketball court closest to the athletic fields.
PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOL (Subject to Change)
This program is considered a Moderate Risk Program that involves close, sustained contact, but with protective equipment in place that may reduce the likelihood of respiratory particle transmission between participants OR intermittent close contact OR group sports OR sports that use equipment that can’t be cleaned between participants. Please take note of the public health protocols list below prior to registration.
1) Event organizers, staff, coaches and participants shall conduct daily symptom assessments (self-evaluation) and stay home if they are experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19.
2) Event organizers, staff, coaches and participants are required to wear a cloth face covering/mask at all times while inside the gymnasium/facility.
3) Parents/guardians will not be able to wait indoors during this program. Spectators are not permitted.
4) It is expected that all participants bring their own hand sanitizer and sanitize at the start, during breaks and at the conclusion of the program.
5) Water fountains are not available for use. Participants shall bring plenty of water.
6) Unless directed by the instructor, participants may/shall not bring their own materials/supplies to this program. All materials/supplies shall be sanitized by the instructor(s) at the start and at the conclusion of the program.
7) If an event organizer, staff member, coach or participant who has been present in the program is diagnosed with COVID-19 or listed as a direct contact with an individual diagnosed with COVID-19 the Town of Farmington’s Recreation Supervisor must be notified about the exposure.
8) If the Town of Farmington becomes designated RED per the Connecticut Department of Public Health Town-Level COVID Response Framework, all indoor activities may be postponed.
CONCUSSION INFORMATION
Per Connecticut General Statutes, programs that service children ages 7 - 19 who engage in an athletic activity such as an organized game or competition against another team or in preparation for a game or competition or who attend an athletic camp or clinic in which the purpose is to train, instruct, or prepare the participant to engage in an organized athletic game or competition to provide a written or electronic statement on the signs and symptoms of concussions to each athlete and parent/guardian upon registration.
