121711 - Tennis Lessons, Youth - Summer

Whether you are a beginner or a more accomplished player, you'll be sure to enjoy our Summer Tennis Lessons with United States Professional Tennis Association Pro, Paul Ratcliffe.
All lessons are designed with the player's age and ability level in mind. Fitness, stroke development, game play, court movement and match strategy will be addressed.
ENTRY/EXIT PROTOCOL
1) Tennis Lessons will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Farmington High School Tennis Courts. In case of inclement weather, July 27 & 29 will be used for make-up dates.
PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOL (Subject to Change)
This program is considered a Low to Moderate Risk Program that involves close, sustained contact, but with protective equipment in place that may reduce the likelihood of respiratory particle transmission between participants OR intermittent close contact OR group sports OR sports that use equipment that can’t be cleaned between participants. Please take note of the public health protocols list below prior to registration.
1) Event organizers, staff, coaches and participants shall conduct daily symptom assessments (self-evaluation) and stay home if they are experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19.
2) Event organizers, staff, coaches and participants are required to wear a cloth face covering/mask at all times.
3) It is expected that all participants bring their own hand sanitizer and sanitize at the start, during breaks and at the conclusion of the program.
4) Water fountains are not available for use. Participants shall bring plenty of water.
5) Participants must bring their own racquet to this program. Any other shared materials/supplies shall be sanitized by the instructor(s) at the start and at the conclusion of the program.
6) If an event organizer, staff member, coach or participant who has been present in the program is diagnosed with COVID-19 or listed as a direct contact with an individual diagnosed with COVID-19 the Town of Farmington’s Recreation Supervisor must be notified about the exposure.

131410 - Running For All Levels
Are you interested in learning how to train to increase your running fitness? Are you interested in getting back into running for exercise but need guidance and motivation? Come learn dynamic warm-ups and strength exercises that prevent injuries and learn different ways to get fitter and stronger as a runner! This program is designed for all levels and abilities and is coached by an Ironman World Championship qualifier who has coached running for 17 years!
1) Our Running for All Levels Program will be held on Wednesdays and will meet at the New Britain Avenue/Oakridge Parking Lot. In case of inclement weather, please contact Farmington Recreation at 860.675.2540.
2) Facemasks are expected to be worn by parents/guardians upon arrival and in public when 6' social distance cannot be maintained. Please arrive with a facemask available upon check-in.
3) Participants may be required to wear a mask during our classes pending State of Connecticut guidelines.
4) It is expected that all participants bring their own hand sanitizer and sanitize at the start, during breaks and at the conclusion of the lessons.
5) Please consider others and stay at home if you have any of the symptoms related to COVID-19.

Would you like to get more comfortable on a bike or build your cycling endurance? Do you want to increase your biking fitness so you can get faster and bike farther? You will be coached through proper warm-ups for cycling, bike safety checks, what to take on a bike ride, how to change a flat tire, how to draft safely and learn different ways to train. This program is designed for all levels and abilities and is coached by an Ironman World Championship qualifier who has coached biking for 17 years!

Farmington Recreation's Adult Tennis League is managed by Townwide Tennis LLC.
Townwide Tennis LLC is a local, competetive, fun and friendly adult tennis league open to men and women, 18 years of age and older, of any skill level.
Townwide Tennis LLC allows you to schedule your own matches and play at your convenience. Your goal is to play everyone in your division once (or twice if it is a small division.)
After your match, the winner reports the score on the website. The more you play, the more points you earn! It’s that simple!

201041 - Martial Arts, Mighty Mites

Farmington Recreation's Mighty Mites program is an introduction to Martial Arts for those ages 4 - 6 years old. Flexibility, coordination, balance, and self-confidence will be developed through participation in this introduction to Martial Arts program. Please wear socks, sneakers, and comfortable clothing. As participants progress through the program, they may be asked to join our Beginner Martial Arts program currently held on Tuesday & Thursday evenings.
Session 1 Make Up Date: 4/7

2) Participants should enter and exit through the main entrance of the building. Parents and participants are asked to wear a facemask while approaching the building and upon check-in. Parents may escort their children to the program space but will not be able to wait indoors during class. Parents are asked to wait outside near or in their vehicles during class.

221410 - MPower Boys Running

Finishing a 5K is an impressive achievement at any age. Imagine the sense of accomplishment and pride your son will feel when he crosses the finish line of his first 5K! MPower Boys Running will prepare him to do just that. Modeled after popular Couch-to-5K plans, MPower’s training program is designed for all levels of runners: from very beginners to experienced racers. We will concentrate on proper form and pacing while we build endurance over the weeks through a combination of running drills, games and core strength exercises. The program fee includes a t-shirt.

Imagine the thrill your daughter will feel as she crosses the finish line in her first race! This non-competitive training program is designed for all levels of runners. Help your daughter gain confidence, build self-esteem, and lead her to a path of health and fitness. Focus will be on using games and drills that make running fun, while also improving athletic performance for those who play other sports. As part of the program, the girls will be exposed to goal setting, journaling of training, nutrition, and mental preparation. The program fee includes a t-shirt and training journal. In the case of inclement weather, the program may be held inside in the school gym, pending facility availability.

Flexibility, coordination, strength and self-confidence will be developed through participation in this ancient practice. Advanced students will be introduced to weaponry and kickboxing. The karate gi and sparring equipment are required for advanced students.

In this course, participants will learn the basics of the Olympic Sport of Fencing taught by Fencing Master, Marc Ganych.
Marc, who has a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Exercise, studied Olympic Foil Fencing from 1979 to 1987. Marc is the 1984 Gold Medalist of the "First Junior Games" as well as the 1985 Bronze Medalist of the National Tournament "Blades of Ala-Tau". Marc is also the 1985 "Outstanding Fencing Technique" award winner as well as a published author of e-book "Powerful Fencing Footwork".
